We wanted to give you an update on our plans for post May 18, 2020. We have been in touch with the Wayland Board of Health, gotten guidance from the CDC and input from pool management consultants. The good news is that pool water kills the Coronavirus. This will not prevent person to person transmission but the virus will not survive in pool water.
There is no definitive guidance at this point but it seems clear that social distancing will continue for some time. The guidance that has been discussed would require us to limit lane usage to 1 or two people, potentially more if they are a family unit. We may need to implement a system of time blocks (45 minutes to 1.5 hours) for users who reserve a block. We will then need an opportunity to disinfect doors, bathrooms, rails, etc. before we begin to allow the next block of pool users into the facility.
While this will certainly reduce the number of people who can use the pool it will allow us to safely reopen. We do not know if we will be able to take the bubble down for the summer at this point.
This closure and the current guidance on operations have put a huge strain on our finances. We have worked with the Small Business Administration and our banks to help us through this time. That support has been very limited. We appreciate all of you who have continued to pay your fees and look forward to welcoming you all back in the greatest possible capacity we are allowed.
